The model: Kögel Mega Trailer in 1:87 scale (H0)
Our H0 scale model of the Krone Mega Liner brings this technical masterpiece to the model railway – with the highest standards of detail and functionality:
More Volume – The Kögel Mega Trailer
The demand from the shipping industry for greater loading capacity is as old as freight transport itself. The automotive logistics sector, in particular, has called for the internal height to be increased to such an extent that three standard mesh boxes can be stacked on top of one another. However, with a length of 13.60 m, a width of 2.55 m and a maximum height of 4 m, conventional semi-trailers have their limitations. The solution: the mega-trailer – a consistently refined vehicle type with a lowered loading area of less than 1 m, an internal height of over 3 m and, in most cases, a roof structure that can be raised for loading. Three mesh boxes stacked on top of each other? No longer a problem, meaning up to 96 mesh boxes can be transported in a single lorry trailer.
The Kögel Mega is now one of the most successful models of its kind. Designed for volume-optimised long-haul transport, it combines robust lightweight construction with maximum flexibility. Numerous major hauliers from across Europe, such as transped, Nothegger, H. Essers, DB Cargo and Waberers, rely on it – particularly in automotive logistics and in Europe-wide combined transport on the north-south axis.
However, the rail industry also had to adapt: traditional flatbed wagons were unsuitable for the low-profile design of mega-trailers. It was only with the introduction of specially developed wagon types, such as the T5 and T3000, that the handling of these high-volume trailers could be integrated into combined transport.
