Our H0 scale model of the Krone Mega Liner brings this technical masterpiece to the model railway – with the highest standards of detail and functionality:
More Volume – The Krone Mega Liner
The shipping industry's demand for more loading volume is as old as freight transport itself. The automotive logistics sector, in particular, has expressed a desire to increase the interior height so that three standard pallet cages can fit on top of each other. However, with a length of 13.60 m, a width of 2.55 m, and a maximum height of 4 m, the classic semitrailer has its limitations. The solution: the Mega-Trailer – a consistently advanced vehicle type with a lowered loading area of less than 1 m, an interior height of over 3 m, and a roof structure that can usually be raised for loading. Three pallet cages stacked on top of each other? No longer a problem, and up to 96 pallet cages can be transported in just one truck trailer.
The Krone Mega Liner is one of the most successful representatives of this design today. Designed for volume-optimized long-distance transport, it combines robust lightweight construction with maximum flexibility – optionally even with a hydraulic lifting roof for even more flexibility during loading. Numerous major freight forwarders such as LKW Walter, Codognotto, Kühne+Nagel, Hero Group, and Schwank rely on it – particularly in automotive logistics and in Europe-wide combined transport on the north-south axis.
But the rail industry also had to follow suit: traditional pocket wagons were unsuitable for the low design of the mega-trailers. Only with specially developed wagon types such as the T5 and T3000 could the handling of these high-volume trailers be integrated into combined transport.
